BIOGRAPHY:
About 1772 Ezra Covell and Hannah, and Hannah's widowed mother, Sarah
(Price)
Hollister, moved north to Massachusetts and settled in Glasgow (now
Blanford), Hampshire (now Hampden) County, where Hannah's brother
George lived. During the Revolution, Ezra Covell enlisted on
September 22, 1776, in Capt. William Cooley's Company., Col. John
Moseley's Regt.---a Hampshire County regiment. After the war they
moved to Rutland, Vermont, but "Hannah did not like the rough & wild
country and persuaded Ezra to move" back to Hudson, Columbia Co.,
N.Y., where they lived the remainder of their lives. Ezra and Hannah
had at least six or seven children, but the names of only two sons
are known. Both these sons, upon their marriage, settled in
Lanesborough, Mass., to which place their uncle George Hollister had
removed. In 1806-07 they migrated together to Oneida County, N.Y.,
where they were pioneer settlers. They started in the month of
December, over the frozen snow, with ox teams and sledges, and
arrived in Oneida County in late January or early February.
